ART 1, ART 1 HONORS & GRAPHIC DESIGN
Hi everyone and welcome to the Bartlett Ninth Grade Academy! My name is Paul Lindsay, and I have had the privilege of teaching Art 1, Art 1 Honors and Graphic Design in Bartlett for the past 13 years. I am proud to be a part of this great community, and I look forward to helping my students in any way I can!
Since I don't have a direct phone line to my classroom, the best way to reach me is via email. If any student or parent needs to contact me with questions or concerns, my email is [email protected]. I check my email frequently and will respond in a timely manner - usually within 24 hours.
I use Canvas for posting online content such as assignments, demo videos and templates. This way students will have access to the information they need whenever they need it or they can watch a demo video as many times as they need to.
To keep things simple, I only post grades in one place, which is PowerSchool. When it comes available, please check PowerSchool to see how your student is doing in their class. If their grades are low, it is almost always because they're not staying on task nor completing their work.
What we will be doing throughout the year in Art 1/ Art 1 Honors is working with the elements of design (line, shape, value, color, texture, space) and the principles of design (unity, emphasis, contrast, pattern, balance, movement/rhythm). Most of the art projects will mainly be done with one or more of the following: graphite, drawing paper, black Sharpies, colored pencil, colored markers, watercolor, tempera paint, construction paper, and student laptops. My assignments are geared towards a variety of abilities, so our students only need to be creative and be willing to try to do their best to be successful.
For Graphic Design, we will start with the elements and principles of design, and then move into more graphic design specific aspects such as typography, layout, imagery, ethics. We will also be learning the basics of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop - industry standard graphic design apps.
For all classes, I charge a $20 fee that goes to the supplies used in the classroom in which is required of all students. I do this for two reasons: 1) Parents and students don't have to hunt down a long list of art supplies for the class and wonder if they got the right thing, and 2) I can get the art supplies way cheaper with an educator and/or bulk discount. Please look for an email regarding your School Cash Online account. Thank you for your help on this!
I look forward to a great year of art and graphic design!!
