Communication: How do I stay informed?
Once you have been accepted into the Honors Academy, we use a variety of communication methods to keep you informed. You are expected to check these methods regularly and respond as requested.
Mandatory Quarterly Meetings
Honors Academy students will meet in person once every nine weeks. Assume that you are required to attend all scheduled meetings unless you are notified otherwise. You will be given the schedule at the beginning of the year and are expected to make arrangements to attend.
Seniors may be asked to attend additional meetings with the Honors Academy Coordinator or their Project of Impact Mentor, as needed, to complete the Project of Impact.
Remind for Service Opportunities and Quick Updates
Once you have been accepted into the program, you will be given the Honors Academy join code for your class. You will stay in this same Remind group until graduation. You may email Mrs. Staten, the Honors Academy Coordinator, for the join code if you get a new phone. The code will also be posted on Canvas.
School email for official communications
All official notifications will be sent to your school email address. I recommend you check your school email at least once a day. You will have teachers that will also use your school email for official notifications. Go to https://login.microsoftonline.com to access your school email.
Canvas for Honors Academy deadlines, submitting service hours, and completing the steps for the Project of Impact (senior year).
Each student in Bartlett City Schools has a Canvas account. Canvas is our district's Learning Management System. Students use this system for submitting assignments and getting course content for their academic classes.
A Canvas "course" for the Honors Academy has been created to help Honors Academy students track their progress in meeting the Honors Academy requirements. This is where Honors Academy deadlines will be posted, and service logs will be submitted. The Canvas calendar will be useful in keeping up with deadlines and anything that needs to be submitted.
During junior and senior years, Canvas will be used for Honors Academy students to submit each part of their Senior Project of Impact. This is where feedback will be posted for any needed revisions.
Throughout the year, Honors Academy students will receive a Check-In survey. This is typically a 2-5 minute survey to determine if the students need any additional guidance or support. Students are encouraged to complete these surveys promptly, as they help with planning the quarterly and small group meetings.
