Welcome to Biology Class!

Check back often for updates and reminders. EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW WILL BE IN CANVAS!

ABOUT ME...
This begins my 29th year in education! I have taught biology, physical science, health, PE and French!  I spent 18 years coaching softball, volleyball and basketball and hold state championships in 2 of the 3.  My husband and I have 3 kids, a bonus daughter, 2 bonus sons, and the most amazing grandson EVER.  We love to travel and do anything outside! Our family goal is to be able to zipline in all 50 states (we're at 17 right now) and as many countries as possible (only 3 right now). My "free" time is spent umpiring college and high school softball and officiating volleyball.

Biology I Honors

2024-2025

Course Syllabus

Instructor: Dr. Parker

Email: [email protected]

This will be unlike any class you’ve taken so far. Biology is very demanding, fast-paced and intense. The topics are challenging, and for most people require a big investment in time and thought. Enrolling in Biology means that you are ready to undertake the challenge of learning new study habits as well as new ideas. The learning curve in the first few months will be steep but well worth the climb. With respect and open minds, we will delve into interesting class discussions that will challenge your mind as well as your personal beliefs. In order to maintain a well-balanced year, carefully examine your academic load and outside activities. Your success in and enjoyment of this class will directly reflect the amount of energy and dedication you invest. Many of you are used to earning A’s on tests with very little study time involved. The end of “easy A’s” may be the toughest adjustment for you. Together with a lot of hard work we can all have a fun and successful year in Biology. I am excited to have you in my class and look forward to us learning together!

Communication

Communication is vital to the success of all students. ALL STUDENTS will be expected to check their Classlink and Bartlett issued email every day for information regarding assignments and/or other class information. Failure to do so will result in students missing assignments, instructions, or question and answer sessions to clear up misunderstandings.

Textbook and Study Resources:

As of now, you will be utilizing your Bartlett student email (please check it every day), the Remind app/website (you can access from your computer—please see instructions for joining Remind at the end of this syllabus), and the 3-4 following websites.

Classlink (used to access Canvas and Edgenuity):

Canvas is our district’s Learning Management System. I will be using this system to push out information and documents to you. You will be using this system to access course material and return assignments.

Edgenuity (Online Curriculum material):

    •

Performance Matters (Assessment Platform):

Laboratory Work:

Students are required to complete lab(s) set forth by State of TN. Students are expected to read each lab carefully before coming to the laboratory and are responsible for following all correct laboratory and safety procedures

Projects:

There will be different projects throughout the semester(s) that may require students to use Keynote, iMovie, or office/apple programs.

Grading:

Grading Scale

90 -100  A

80 - 89   B

70 - 79   C

65 - 69   D

0   - 64   F

Students are allowed to redo assignments to show mastery of an objective if it is appropriate for the standard being taught. The student will need to make arrangements with the teacher to redo assignments after school or during their teacher’s office hours.  The student is responsible for making and keeping those arrangements.

Cheating:

I expect that when working in groups, parts of your projects in group work will be the same. But conclusions of your projects and any written essays or reports must be original. The effort you put into cheating/copying can be put into learning the material. Scores will be divided by how many people do the same work. Parents will be called on the first offense.

Behavior:

Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. I have very high expectations of you and low tolerance for time wasted on behavior issues. All school handbook policies will be enforced.

Additional Help:

Please feel free to let me know if you need extra help and I will make appropriate arrangements. Please request additional help via email or in person stating what topics you would like me to review.
