Tier II ELA Intervention

Course Description

Tier II ELA Intervention, also known as Reading RTI, is designed to improve a student's ability to write correct sentences, read grade level material and to also provide assistance in passing English 9.  Some components of the Tier II ELA Intervention class include a weekly reading screener, three reading benchmark tests, a review day for English 9, sentence corrections, vocabulary and reading assignments from Readworks and i-Ready.
Students will start each class with a sentence correction or vocabulary. Most of the reading assignments will come from Readworks.    This is grade level material, and most of the work will be completed in class.  Except for finishing missing classwork, I don't usually give homework.  On Thursday, I will review assignments from  English 9.  Fridays will be used to complete assignments that weren't completed earlier in the week.  As the year proceeds, I will add a vocabulary component which will reinforce the vocabulary assignments from English 9.
Supplies include a fully charged laptop, a spiral notebook,  a high lighter, dry erase markers, and a writing utensil.
Grading
Grades come from four areas: 4 journal entries, 4 i-Ready assignments, 4 Reading Works assignments, teacher made reading comprehension and vocabulary assignments.  If a student completes more than 4 i-Ready and Reading Works assignments, I will take the top 4 scores from each curriculum.
