10th Grade Summer Reading

English 10 Short Stories

All English 10 students must choose one short story to read from each of the three groups below, for a total of three short stories. All of the short stories can be found online.

ALL STUDENTS will be tested on the summer reading during the first THREE weeks of school.

• Group A
  • “The Open Window” by Saki (H. H. Munro)
  • “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allan Poe
  • “The Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

 

• Group B
  • “Rules of the Game” by Amy Tan
  • “Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy?” by Tim O’Brien
  • “The Bass, the River, and Sheila Mant” by W. D. Wetherell

 

• Group C
  • “The Pit and the Pendulum” by Edgar Allan Poe
  • “The Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket” by Jack Finney
  • “The Cold Equations” by Tom Godwin
