About Me

I am Michael Neal. My primary instrument is violin. I also have extensive training on viola, cello, and bass. At the time of this writing, I have played violin for 26 years. I have many other interests outside of music. If you're curious, feel free to ask (before class begins or after it ends).

I graduated from Tennessee Technological University with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education. I have been teaching since Fall 2010. I started my career with Memphis City Schools by teaching violin to 3rd grade homerooms in several Orange Mound schools. Once the two districts merged, I was moved to Bartlett High School and Bolton High School. When Bartlett City Schools decided to separate from the district, I felt that my place was at Bartlett.

It is my mission to increase the strength, size, and public presence of the BCS orchestra program at all participating ages. The BCS orchestra program will have ensembles that perform a variety of styles. The student musicians of the BCS orchestra program will be well rounded musicians that have a solid base in critical listening, improvisation, composition, music theory, instrument technique, music history, and musicality.
