Principal's Message

Tuesday, June 26th, 2018

I had the privilege of watching my first Academy Class, the Class of 2018, walk across the stage at their graduation this past May.  It brought back so many pleasant memories from about four years ago.  That first year, we learned a lot, and we came together from four different feeder schools to become the Freshman Class.  Since then, three more freshman classes have come through the Academy, and I have loved every one of them.  The time we get to spend together is brief for me; it goes by much too fast.  But I enjoy getting to know them, and I look forward to watching each one of them cross the stage at graduation.

We are looking forward to about 750 new freshman coming through our doors this year - students who have just finished eighth grade at Appling, Bon Lin, and Elmore Park middle schools. The transition to high school can be challenging for most freshmen, but we have learned a lot over the past four years. We have tweaked the Academy every year based on the experiences we have had the previous years.  The result is that each and every year, we have gotten better at what we do. This is an incredible faculty, and we are committed to making the freshman year a positive experience for students.

Over the past four years we have discovered several areas where the adjustment from middle school to high school can be difficult.  We have created a Top Ten Differences Between Middle School and High School.  We will be sharing those differences with you in the coming days, weeks, and months.  It is our hope that you will be able to use our experiences to make your freshman year even better.

We are excited to get started, and we look forward to working with this class.  We want to do everything we can to help these freshmen establish a solid foundation as they begin their high school experience. Thank you for sharing them with us. Let us know your concerns and feel free to ask us questions. You are our partners for the coming year. Together we can build for their success the next four years and beyond.
